Cheerleading preview: Season at a glance

(Original publication: December 6, 2007)
New Rochelle: Having won last week's Westchester County Cheerleader Invitational - perhaps the biggest event of the fall season - the Huguenots are once again regarded by most as the best team around. The seven seniors on the 17-member roster also give New Rochelle, a perennial contender at nationals, plenty of experience.

North Rockland: The Red Raiders saw their two-year reign as grand champion at the Westchester County Cheerleader Invitational end, but they are still a force to be reckoned with. They also recently won the Rockin' Rally at the Brewster Sports Complex.

Ursuline: The Koalas were edged by Ketcham at the County Center last week, but are still one of the area's best. This competitive squad has depth and performs complex routines.

Hen Hud: The Sailors are an extremely tight-knit bunch, led by seven seniors who have won their division at the Westchester County Cheerleader Invitational the past four years. Always gracious no matter the results, Hen Hud receives plenty of support from other area teams.

Yorktown: The program has been on the rise the past few years. An increase in the difficulty of their stunting and tumbling paid off with advancement into the grand champion competition at the County Center last week.
